Most brands running video on Google Ads manage frequency one campaign at a time. Each campaign optimises on its own, so the same person can see your ads in three places in a single week.
Google Ads is now testing a fix. Video Campaign Groups let advertisers group eligible Video and Demand Gen campaigns and manage their combined reach and frequency.
You choose one of two goals for the group:
Budgets and creative stay separate for each campaign. Reporting combines the group’s core metrics, such as unique reach and average weekly impressions.
Google’s Meridian marketing mix modelling study of around 600 US brands found that an optimal frequency of 2.7 impressions per week led to a 19% lift in ROI. That figure comes from Google’s own analysis, so treat it as a benchmark to test against your data rather than a fixed rule.
The benefit is clearest for brands running several upper-funnel campaigns at once. Exposure gets managed at group level, so spend goes towards reaching new people instead of repeating impressions on the same audience.
The interface still labels the group type as beta, so availability may vary by account. The wider question is how much optimisation Google applies behind the scenes. Deduplicated reporting is useful on its own. The larger gain comes if delivery is coordinated across campaigns in practice.
Video Campaign Groups move frequency control from the campaign to the plan. For teams running Video and Demand Gen together, that is a more accurate way to budget exposure. The data from your own test will show whether the optimisation delivers.
