Google is rolling out post view counts inside the Business Profile dashboard, globally, for every business that publishes updates, offers, and events. It calls the feature Google Posts Reporting, and the company describes it as one of its most requested additions.
For three and a half years, that number did not exist. Google retired post views and post clicks in February 2023, alongside photo view counts, during its shift to the Business Profile Performance API. No replacement metric arrived until now.
Each post card in the Posts section of the dashboard now carries a view count. Three things define its scope:
The data is live in the dashboard but not yet available through the API, so third-party tools cannot pull it. Click data has not returned. Google discontinued clicks alongside the original view metric in 2023, and the September bulletin mentions views only.
Google has not defined what counts as a view. Profile views in the standard Performance report count each visitor once a day, but there is no confirmation yet that post views follow the same logic. A screenshot circulated on LinkedIn in August showed view counts live on one account while others saw nothing, suggesting the rollout moved through a limited test before this global release.
For three years, teams posting to Business Profile had no direct signal on whether anyone saw the update. Post view counts close that gap. A business can now see which post type, which offer, and which event actually earned attention on Search and Maps, and adjust what it publishes accordingly.
This sits inside a bigger shift. Google is also connecting Business Profiles to the Gemini app, and AI systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s own AI Overviews are increasingly the surface where local businesses get found, compared, and recommended before a searcher ever opens Maps. A profile that performs well in traditional local search does not automatically carry the same weight inside an AI-generated answer. That gap is where structured AI search reputation management and consistent LLM brand monitoring earn their place in a local SEO strategy, alongside the fundamentals Business Profile has always rewarded.
Once view counts appear on your profile, treat them as a working input.
Post view counts give local teams a clearer signal after years without one. Used alongside a wider visibility strategy across Search, Maps, and AI-driven answers, they help decide what earns a spot on your profile and what does not.
